About Ujamaa
Stories That Shape Lives
Ujamaa Publishing publishes books that help people grow, love well and pass something good to the next generation: honest nonfiction for adults, and illustrated stories for children.
The name
Ujamaa is a Swahili word for familyhood: the idea that we belong to one another and are responsible for one another. It is the reason a family sits at the center of our emblem, and the standard every book we publish is held to.
What every book is for

- Books that tell the truth about who we are and help us become who we are meant to be.
- Family
- Stories and guidance for the people we build a life with, at every age.
- Community
- Reading that sends us back to our neighbors, churches, classrooms and tables better than we left.
- Imagination
- Picture books that let children wonder, laugh and picture a bigger world.
- Character
- Kindness, honesty, courage and responsibility, practiced on the page and off it.
- Generational impact
- Books worth handing down, because what we read shapes what we pass on.
