I Am Special

  • Ages 5–8
  • About 20 minutes
  • Printable PDF · 2 pages · US Letter

A self-portrait page and simple prompts help children name their strengths, interests, and kind qualities, then finish an "I am…" affirmation in their own words.

How to do it

  1. Print both pages.
  2. On page one, draw a self-portrait inside the frame and write your name.
  3. On page two, finish each star sentence by writing or drawing.
  4. Choose a word for the final “I am” sentence, then color the stars.

What children practice

  • Describing personal strengths
  • Positive self-talk
  • Drawing and writing about themselves

Tips for grown-ups

  • Younger children can tell you their answers while you write.
  • Point out a strength you have noticed if they get stuck.
  • Hang the finished page somewhere they will see it.
