My Feelings Have Names

  • Ages 4–8
  • About 15–20 minutes
  • Printable PDF · 2 pages · US Letter

Children look at six faces and match each one to a feeling word, then draw how they feel today and talk with a grown-up about times they have felt happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised, or calm.

How to do it

  1. Print both pages.
  2. Read each feeling word aloud together.
  3. Draw a line from each face to the matching word. Talk about the clues on each face.
  4. On page two, draw today’s feeling face and finish the sentences together.

What children practice

  • Naming common feelings
  • Noticing facial expressions
  • Talking about feelings with a trusted adult

Tips for grown-ups

  • Read the feeling words aloud for younger children.
  • Share your own example first. It helps children feel safe answering.
  • There are no wrong answers in the drawing section.
